The Medical Director Acute Care Medicine will be recognized in the health system as an important physician-executive collaborating with other physicians and leaders of other disciplines.
Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Medicine, the Medical Director will lead and contribute to important hospital initiatives involving patient safety, efficiency and quality. The Medical Director will work collaboratively with the Chief Medical Officer, Chief Nursing Officer, Medical Directors of the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, Internal Medicine Residency program as well as ancillary departments such as Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Care Management and others as necessary.
The Medical Director will provide supervision and mentorship to APPs and physicians in the division to help build sustainable career pathways for the team.
:
· Provide overall leadership, planning and organization of acute care medicine improvement initiatives including, but not limited to: documentation, patient experience, workload, and length of stay.
· Oversees, organizes and implements clinical and organizational quality improvement and patient safety programs and projects.
· Sets standards for best practices in communications with patients, families, other care team members, and other key constituents.
· Performs quality reviews on individual cases as needed
· Creates standards for judicious use of consultants, laboratory, radiologic testing and pharmacy resources.
· Oversees recruitment and retention efforts for staff physicians and APPs in the division.
· Serves as a mentor to all members of the division to include wellness and job satisfaction.
· Works collaboratively with CMO, Care Management, and other departments on length of stay initiatives.
· Creates agenda and encourages participation in all division and relevant department meetings.
· Participates in long-range planning for new services as well as a weekly hospital operations meeting with other physician leaders and the CMO.
· Organizes the division’s initiatives to stay up to date with clinical protocols and algorithms. Works with existing committees and CMIO to modify or create order sets as needed.
· Ensures acute care medicine providers are responsive to physician advisors on assignment of proper location for care and documentation that supports hospitalization.
· Ensures acute care medicine provers are responsive to queries regarding pre-existing conditions and language around documenting complications.
· Participates in a multidisciplinary fashion with other Section Chiefs and Department Chair for patient centered care initiatives.
· Provides direct medical care to hospitalized patients as attending physician or consultant at approximately 0.25 effort.
· Participation in the CME programs of the Department of Medicine including grand rounds, morbidity and mortality conference as well as conferences for residents and APPs
· Represents Acute Care Medicine Division at departmental, hospital and health system meetings with other leaders.
· Clinical Research activities are available but not required.
- Minimum of five years’ experience as a hospitalist
- Certification in Internal Medicine or a comparable adult medical specialty required
- The employee must also fulfill the requirements for medical staff membership at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
- Demonstrated knowledge of quality measures, such as HCAHPS, MHACS
- High ethical standards and a commitment to compliance
- Excellent organizational, time management and problem-solving skills
- Ability to function effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team
· Licensed to practice in the State of Maryland and Board Certified/Board
