Luminis Health is seeking a System-wide Director of Safety & Security, responsible for the overall operations of the organizations physical security, access control system, incident response, budgetary control, and adherence to any necessary protocols, regulations, or legal requirements. This individual will oversee the security of all entities under the Luminis Health system. The incumbent will embody the RISE values of Respect, Inclusion, Service, and Excellence.
1. Develops and contributes to the achievement of established organizational and department strategic and tactical goals and objectives. Ensures compliance with system and hospital policies and procedures and governmental/accreditation regulations.
2. Develop, implement, and monitor the system wide security program, to include patient, visitor, and employee safety, and parking. Interacts with key stakeholders to ensure compliance with all legislative, regulatory, and accreditation requirements pertaining to the security of Luminis Health’s infrastructure.
3. Performs continual assessment and reporting related to new or improved security technologies and provides recommendations for security products/services that may enhance the organization’s security infrastructure. Provides direction and guidance with regard to the security requirements necessary for transitions to new systems, platforms, or facilities.
4. Develops, implements, and administers approved security plans/programs, including security certifications, education, and publications. Provides solutions to identified security issues. Provides leadership in security policy development, ensures appropriate responses to security incidents, and performs scheduled and unscheduled security audits, as required.
5. Provides input to Luminis Health strategic and tactical planning committees and workgroups to ensure that appropriate security measures are included in all organizational initiatives. Develops and delivers security awareness and education programs to all Luminis Health employees on a scheduled basis, and ensures that all non-employees, consultants and vendors receive the necessary security education during their respective engagements.
· Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required.
· Minimum of ten (10) years’ experience as a security, corrections, and/or public safety professional.
· Minimum of five (5) years progressive management with healthcare experience required.
· Prior experience training security staff in competencies, including verbal de-escalation management training.
· Previous experience using a business office suite, such as Microsoft Office, is required.
· Excellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated critical thinking skills.

· Attends staff meetings and completes mandatory in-services, requirements and competency evaluations on time.
· Understands regulatory requirements with regard to compliance and all other laws and regulations that apply to the organizational operations (e.g. Code of Conduct) and how these regulations apply to the individual’s role/ department/ unit. Proactive in addressing compliance issues; reporting through appropriate channels such as supervisor, chain of command and Ethics Point. Completes mandatory introductory and ongoing training within the specified timeframes.
· Maintains current knowledge in present areas of responsibility (i.e., self-education, attends ongoing educational programs).
· Works collaboratively and supports efforts of team members. Demonstrates exceptional customer service and interacts effectively with physicians, patients, residents, visitors, staff and the broader health care community.
- Applicants must be able to obtain a State of Maryland Guard Card and maintain a good standing with the Maryland State Police.
· Successful completion of Safety and Security training and certifications as necessary.
· IAHSS Certified Hospital Protection Administrator (CHPA) preferred, required within 6 months of hire.
- BLS/CPR Certification through the American Heart Association is preferred and must obtain within 90 days of hire.
