Advanced Practice Provider - Thoracic Surgery

Luminis Health is seeking to hire a Physician Assistant (Masters's Degree required) or Nurse Practitioner (Acute Care Degree) to provide comprehensive care to patients under the Department of Thoracic Surgery. This role will include inpatient, outpatient, and assisting in the operating room. The AP staff member will work in close collaboration with the supervising physician, general surgery residents, and nurse staff. Responsibilities include and not limited to the following: -Perform daily rounds on postoperative patients and develop care plans in collaboration with the attending physician. -Staff in-patient consults in timely manner. -Assist in operating room and facilitate operative workflow -Independently staff postoperative clinic and coordinate appropriate Med Onc and Radiation Oncology referrals if appropriate. -Order and interpret diagnostic studies on outpatient and inpatients. -Counsel patients and families on diagnosis, treatment plans, postop expectations, and recovery. -Help coordinate multidisciplinary care with nursing, PT/OT, case management, medical and critical care teams. -Must have attention to detail ,excellent communication, and organizational skills with commitment to high quality, patient centered care.Position Objective:
Provides supervised medical services for patients with emphasis on acute/same day care. All duties are in collaboration with contracted physician, services are provided under the rules regulations, and policies established by the approved job description of the State of Maryland, BPQA, HCFA, AMA, and AAMC.

- Maintains current licensure and continuing medical education credits as required by Maryland State Law.
- Communicates treatment / therapy progress with individuals who have the responsibility or control in patient care intervention.
- Refers patients to appropriate licensed physician or other health care provider as condition or circumstances warrant.
- Other duties as assigned.
Educational/Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in related field.
- Graduate of an accredited school of medicine.
- Two years’ experience as a PA in an acute care setting required.
Required License/Certifications:
- Licensed as a Physician’s Assistant in the State of Maryland or eligible

There is a reasonable expectation that employees in this position will be exposed to blood-borne pathogens.
Physical Demands -
Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
